November update

Silver Star resort is completely white and every trail is perfectly groomed for cross-country skiing. Skiing feels almost effortless this afternoon during my 2nd workout for the day, and I can’t help but feel very fortunate to be able to do what I do. Tomorrow the 5-day training camp will be over, but in 3 weeks from now I will be back on the same trails, fighting for my spot on Vancouver Olympic Team.

I am stoked that the season is almost here and this time around I feel fit, confident and relaxed about the races ahead. My boyfriend Harmen reminded me the other day how special the next few months will be, as I embark on the journey to qualify for home Olympics and then race my best next February at the Games. This is a very cool time in my life, but honestly, having so many dear friends cheering me on makes it a thousand times more special! You can’t even imagine how big of a difference it makes for me to have your support and encouragement.

Everyday I think of your smiles, genuine encouragement and kind words. I carry these images in my mind and when the training gets real tough, it feels like these positive thoughts are the only things that carry me through. Thank you, and I promise to race my heart out this winter.

October update

Hello everyone,

We've almost finished our high-altitude training camp in Mammoth Lakes, California, and I've been training very hard together with the Canadian National Ski Team. 2 days ago we did a short 2-day trip to the legendary Yosemite National Park and hiked the Half-Dome mountain for training. In 5.5 hours we ascended and descended an astonishing 4,800 feet (1500 meters) and hiked / ran 27 km to the summit and back.

What a trip!
Here are the pictures.
